A picture is worth a thousand words. Most of our hundreds of pictures are favored in Google! Why? Because no other website has so many beautiful high resolution pictures, taken by ourselves. Our pictures not only show you the beauty of Ethiopia, but they also show that we go everywhere, photographing wildlife, plants, people and culture. They show our professionalism, our keen eye for detail and our passion for the culture and nature of Ethiopia. So why consider booking our our Ethiopia Culture & National Parks modules? Because we don't mislead you like many tour operators do. When the Blue Nile falls are dry.... we tell you. When fog clouds the lava lake of Erte Ale? We let you know. Just drop us a mail and we will check it out for you.

Our tours get you to ALL the cultural places Ethiopia is so famous for, and on top of that, you get to see up to 12 National Parks/Reserves accompanied by a conservation forester. There is nothing similar on the market.

As Ethiopia can be combined with other East African countries, we organize tours in modules. Destinations Overview: Historical Circuit; Danakil Depression; Eastern Route; Simien Mountains; Bale Mountains; Southern Parks Safari; Gambella; Addis Ababa. BUT WAIT: if you buy your international ticket with Ethiopia Airlines, they will sell the internal flights at a price that you can't even ride the bus for. But you MUST plan it all in one package and making changes may be very costly. So let us help you plan your entire trip and book your local flights for an incredibly low price after you booked your international flight with Ethiopian Airlines!

Mount Entoto

Emperor Menelik II built his first palace and resided in a historical area 1,300 ha mountain resort at 2,600 - 3,100masl, Mount Entoto, just outside of Addis Ababa. When he moved from Ankober, he founded Addis Ababa from this location. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. It is also the location of a number of celebrated churches, including the Entoto Maryam Church. The mountain is densely covered by eucalyptus trees that were imported from Australia during the reign of Menelik II, and mostly planted during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign. The forest on the mountain is an important source of firewood for the city.

Famous Churches

Entoto Kidist Raguel Church

Also located on Mount Entoto, built with adobe, the Entoto Kidist Raguel Church is the oldest church of Addis Ababa and built at the location of a little 700 years old rock-hewn chapel which is still there. Little known, this fabulous church might be considered the most significant Addis church with Lake Tana like murals, a small museum with royal and Coptic artifacts like crowns and antique bibles. What struck me in all the churches in Ethiopia was the welcoming atmosphere granted to visitors. Yes, foreigners often have to pay to enter, but they are always treated courteously and in most cases, taking pictures is allowed, often even during church services.

Beate Maryam Church complex

Currently being restored, the Beate Maryam Church was commisioned by Empress Zewditu in 1911. This attractive square stone church has 4 axumite colonaded arches on each of its exterior walls and a central dome with smaller domes on its corners. Carved lions guard the entrance. It is home to Menelik II's mausoleum and several other royals. Before its construction there was the much smaller Baata Church and a few hundreds meters away, there is the Gebi Gebriel church.

St George's Cathedral

St George's Cathedral  was built in 1896 to commemorate Ethiopia's victory over the Italians. The circular building may not look impressive on approach, but as you circle the building, you will notice people praying besides the walls making it a living testimony to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The interior is colorfully decorated with huge paintings and mosaics and its little museum exhibits ceremonial clothes and ancient manuscripts.

The Greatest Mosques of Addis Ababa

Anwar Mosque

The Anwar Mosque, located in the Mercato district was the first mosque of Addis Ababa, built between 1916 - 1929. Visitors are not welcome in its court yard. Originally, a mosque attendee allowed me in under his companionship, but he was quickly forced to take ne back out by other attendees who looked very hostile and agressive.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Things to do BY DAY & NIGHTLIFE

With a population of about 4 million inhabitants, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at an elevation between 2,300 and 2,600 masl, is the third highest capital in the world.

As the country's largest city, it is growing and modernizing rapidly. It shares being the seat of the Federal Government of Ethiopia with the second largest city of the country, Dire Dawa in the Oromia Region. It is also the seat of the African Union, the African equivalent to the Europian union. That explains why there are more than 120 international missions and embassies in Addis Ababa, making Addis Ababa de facto the capital of Africa. While Amharic is most commonly spoken (70% of the inhabitants), having attracted citizens of so many other regions, many other local languages are spoken as well.

Addis is safer than most cities in Africa. Gang violence and similar serious activities are unusual. However, you should always on the alert for pickpockets and con-pick pockets, often young boys.

Addis Ababa has a subtropical highland climate; due to its high elevation it has relatively moderate temperatures for a city in the tropics. November to January is the dry season in Addis Ababa with mild day temperatures of around 23 °C 73 (°F), while it cools down at night. People talk about the short rainy season from February to May, but statistics show that it is just a gradually increase in rainfall towards the full rainy months of July and August. During those months there is less difference between day and night temperatures, while light rainfalls may cool the air. The peak of the wet season is from June to mid-September when the temperatures are lower and the sky may be clouded most of the day.

BUT CHANGING AFTERWARDS IS EXPENSIVE, SO WORK OUT A SCHEDULE WITH US TO GET A FABULOUS DEAL FOR FLYING THROUGH THE COUNTRY IN STEAD OF SPENDING ENDLESS TIME ON THE ROAD!!!

What makes us different from so many other tour operators?

Just look at the quality of our high resolution pictures. We took them all ourselves. We have thousands of high resolution pictures on this website, that you can see enlarged by clicking on them. These pictures show that we have been everywhere in the country of your interest and really know the details. We are professional explorers and biologists with MSc and PhD.
